CALGARY-
A Calgary-based company that rents more than 1,500 suites in Alberta has expanded its vaccination policy beyond its employees and contractors, and now requires the same for future tenants.
Strategic Group announced Thursday that all potential tenants will be required to show proof of vaccination. Tenants were notified of the change in September.
“Our residents tell us they appreciate knowing that all of their neighbors are vaccinated – they feel even safer at home,” Strategic Group CEO Riaz Mamdani said in a statement. “We have had no reaction from potential residents when we ask for proof of vaccination before making visits.
“Knowing that they are entering a community that cares about their health is (a) characteristic for them.”
The company says exemptions will be given to children 12 and under who are not currently eligible for vaccines.
Unvaccinated residents currently residing in one of the Company’s one or two bedroom suites in Calgary or Edmonton will not be evicted due to their status and will be permitted to renew their lease, but they will not be permitted to access shared facilities, including fitness facilities. and party rooms.
“Vaccinating all members of our community is the only way to get through this pandemic and regain a sense of normalcy,” Mamdani said. “The safety of our team and our residents is a top priority, so ensuring full vaccination at all levels is the least we can do.”
Strategy group officials confirm to CTV News that unvaccinated tenants will still have access to select hallways, lobbies, elevators, patios and other shared spaces in buildings and that all company personnel are fully vaccinated.
